Sara Alicia Costa

Principal Architect

Sara founded Ocurrente Design in 2020 when a friend asked her to help renovate the worship space at her church. From the seed of community collaboration and a belief in beautiful design for all, Ocurrente Architecture and Design was born. Sara sought to create a new kind of architecture firm which values the health and happiness of their Clients and Employees above all.

Sara’s background leans into sustainable design and appreciation for vernacular and historical architecture. She spent a semester abroad in Tuscany and returned to Austin to join UT’s Design Build Texas team, designing and then constructing a sustainable, hill country home featuring a rainwater catchment system. She continues to be inspired by global perspectives and practical construction applications.

Sara’s design work includes retail and commercial building shells and interiors, including restaurants and kitchens, for large national clients. She has worked for local interior designers on small residential remodels and additions where she learned the importance of design integration and attention to finish details. She has worked for large national firms, as a licensed Architect and Project manager, where she learned the balance between quality, speed, and budget and the impact design can have on the community.
